Walker’s Legacy, the largest digital platform for multicultural women in business and entrepreneurship, will honor fifteen (15) women leaders of Charlotte as a part of national awards programming

Charlotte, NC, November, 16, 2018, Dr. LaTanya Bowman announced their selection as a 2018 Power 15 Award honoree presented by Walker’s Legacy, a global platform for the professional and entrepreneurial multicultural woman. The Walker’s Legacy Charlotte Power 15 Awards program is presented in partnership with AARP and the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)  to recognize the achievements of notable businesswomen and community leaders.  

Chiropractic Physician and Owner of Discovery Chiropractic and Wellness Center, Dr. LaTanya Bowman attended North Carolina Central University in Durham and received her Bachelor of Science Degree for Athletic Training in December 2000. She was exposed to different branches of sports medicine during her tenure with both the Duke University Athletic/Physical Therapy Department and Wake Forest Athletic Football Department. Throughout her training with athletes, she discovered the benefits of chiropractic treatment.

 Dr. Bowman continued her education at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, and received a second Bachelor of Science Degree in Anatomy and a Doctoral Degree in Chiropractic in August 2005.

Dr. Bowman first opened her doors in 2016 and within the first 6 months of operation, she was listed as one of the top 20 chiropractors out of 167 offices in the city of Charlotte. During this time of growth, Discovery Chiropractic and Wellness Center has been awarded 3 times in a row as one of the top 20 chiropractic offices in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area, from 2016-2018 by Expertise.com.

Dr. Bowman has been featured on WCNC Charlotte Today's Health segments, as well as the 31 Days of Biz for 2018 for Charlotte Business Resources. Scholastically, she has written articles for The Charlotte Health & Wellness Magazine, and has led corporate health educational talks for various organizations, including the Discovery Channel.

Dr. Bowman's office is conveniently located in the North Charlotte area for Chiropractic and Wellness services, where she continues to serve her community in the field of chiropractic.

In addition to Charlotte, NC, the organization will honor a total of 150 women in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Miami, Dallas, Houston and Washington, DC. Recipients of the Power 15 Award are women who have thrived in an array of industries including social entrepreneurship, business, technology, media, and real estate among others.

The private awards dinner program will be held in Charlotte on November 16, 2018

Past national Walker’s Legacy Power Award recipients include Keisha Lance Bottoms, Mayor of the City of Atlanta, GA; Latanya Mapp Frett, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Global; Tiffany Smith-Anoa’i, Executive Vice President of Entertainment Diversity, Inclusion, and Communications at CBS Entertainment; and Miko Branch, co-founder of Miss Jessie’s, among other notable honorees.

Girlz B Sweet is always looking for successful women to draw on their experiences that led them to be an inspiration to young girls in their community. Today, we interviewed Dr. LaTanya Bowman owner of Discovery Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Charlotte, NC and asked her some important questions about her accomplishments.

Dr. Bowman is originally from Winston Salem, NC, but currently resides in Charlotte, NC. Not everything she does is about work. For fun she enjoys reading books, salsa dancing, listening to Classical music. Dr. Bowman is multi-talented and plays the flute, as well. In her words, “I love to travel. My favorite place to travel is the Caribbean.” 

It took a lot of hard work and dedication to reach the level of success that she has experienced. Upon graduating from high school, she chose to attend North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC and majored in Athletic Training. By selecting this major, she was able to secure several internships at Division 1 universities, giving her exposure to training with some of the best sports programs in the nation. During her intern experience, Dr. Bowman became more intrigued in the chiropractic field when she noticed that the chiropractor was getting athletes better, quicker. From that experience, she decided to attend Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, TX, earning her doctorate degree in 3 ½ years. 

Girlz B Sweet knows that this type of success does not typically start in adulthood, so we asked Dr. Bowman who inspired her when she was a girl. “My mom. She used to always drop me off at school and would say that I was going to school to learn how to stand on my own two feet and not have to rely on anyone else.” She continues to be inspired today by her parents. “They are there for the physical and economical support. When I need someone to tell me that I’m doing good, I can always rely on them.” She also stated that her classmates from both undergraduate and chiropractic school continue to feed me with affirmations and referrals.

A major part of success is giving back to the community and Dr. Bowman does just that. She is very involved at the local schools. She goes out to schools and talks to youth about spinal health. She’s also initiated a Backpack Safety program and plans on doing more of these programs in the near future. 

Dr. Bowman believes that young girls who need motivation to achieve should always be around people who want the same thing that they want and who don’t push them down. “Be around people who are doing better than you are because it will push or motivate you to do better, too.” She adds, “In order to be successful, you have to do things you’ve never done before.”
